Body Laser Pigmentation Removal (Sun spots / age spots / freckles / post-inflammatory pigment)

Pigmentation laser targets excess melanin in spots/patches. The pigment absorbs the laser energy, breaks into tiny particles, and gradually lifts/sheds or clears via the body’s immune system. Some spots darken first before flaking off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the spot get darker first?

Often yes - treated pigment can look like coffee grounds/dark speckles before it flakes off (typically 5–10 days).

How many sessions?

Commonly 1 - 4 sessions, depending on depth/type of pigment and sun exposure.

Is it permanent?

If it’s sun damage, it can come back with UV exposure. Results last best with strict SPF.

Can you treat melasma on the body?

Melasma is tricky and can worsen with heat/light. It needs careful assessment and often a different approach.

Is there downtime?

Mostly mild redness; some areas form a light crust/flaking for several days.

Before or After Care

Before care

  • Avoid sun exposure/tanning 2–4 weeks before (very important)

  • No fake tan on the area

  • Avoid retinoids/acids 5–7 days prior

  • Don’t treat broken/irritated skin

  • If you’re using prescription skin creams, tell your therapist first

After care

  • Treat area gently: mild cleanser, moisturiser, no scrubs

  • Expect darkening then flaking—do not pick

  • Avoid heat/exercise/sauna for 24–48 hours

  • No exfoliation, waxing, or active skincare on area for 7–10 days

  • Daily SPF, reapply, cover up (UV can trigger rebound pigmentation)
